The μPAD is Out of the Box’s (Micro Processor for Academic Development) platform. The μPAD is based on the Atmel (now Microchip) ATxmega128A1U microcontroller. This device was chosen for its simple yet powerful architecture, and its rich assortment of modern peripherals. The μPAD is designed as a module. The platform can be connected to base boards using its 50 pin base connector on the bottom of the board, or to backpack boards using the four 8-pin connectors on the top of the board. The base connector exposes the EBI (External Bus Interface) of the Xmega as well as two additional digital I/O ports, and a portion of an analog I/O port. The backpack connectors of the μPAD feature two full digital ports and one full analog port.

The μPAD is currently used to teach EEL3744C (Microprocessor Applications) at the University of Florida Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering.
